Possible Songs

For this project, I will be working with Stephanie (Steph) Colderick and we have decided to look towards the Indie genre as this is the genre we both generally listen to and enjoy. We have looked at five potential songs we feel we could work with as they all have a similar style yet have some differences and we will decide between each of them.

Take Me To Church- Hoizer

Take Me to Church is performed by the Irish Musician Hoizer and we feel it will be a good song choice as we feel we can make this music video look effective and professional as possible as we have friends who have a choreographed dance to this song as well as having an opportunity to possibly film in a church which will give the video a literal meaning. The church setting will be open with lots of natural light which will benefit the outcome of the video as it won't be dark as we do not have the resources to provide professional lighting. As we are looking at our singer to be female as we feel she perfectly fits the role and as she has a powerful singing voice in general, as she sings over the lyrics the music video will look very realistic. As Hoizer is male, Steph and I have found a good female cover of the song that we're going to use. Overall, this song appears to be the most appropriate choice as we both feel we can create an effective music video.

Hold Back The River- James Bay

Hold Back the River is performed by the English singer-songwriter and guitarist James Bay and although this song is fairly similar to Take Me to Church, the main guitar motif in the song means we can use our friend who can play the guitar which will add a realistic and professional element to our music video. There is a possible nature approach that we can include in our video and Steph and I feel this open light natural setting will help improve the quality of the video adding a professional element. Our possible dancers also know a short dance to this song and although the dance to 'Take Me To Church' is more well developed, there is a possibility to improve this routine is we wanted to use it for the music video however both Steph and I have not seen the routine for this dance yet we saw the routine for Take Me To Church in April 2017 so this routine will be easily remembered to use so this would be the more appropriate dance choice.

Ho Hey- Lumineers

Ho Hey is performed by the American indie band The Lumineers and it's a slightly different song that we considered as it is shorter and slightly more fast paces which means we can create a more eccentric looking video. The main focus of this music video is the guitar motif which we can use as we have a friend who can play the guitar however it would be harder to create a band for the song as we don't have many connections with friends who can play instruments apart from our friend with the guitar.

Blame It On Me- George Ezra

George Ezra is an English singer/songwriter and musician who generally uses his guitar in a wide range of his music. Blame it on me is one of these songs so this shows we can again use our friend who plays the guitar which will add a professional element to the video due to the fact she can play the instrument well. This song however is slightly more fast paced and upbeat which means although it will still stick with the indie genre, it'll be a more interesting video as it will have a more quirky element as it will be busier and faster.

You've Got The Love- Florence and the Machine

You've got the love is performed by the English indie/rock band Florence and the Machine and this song is a different style of indie song as it is slightly more upbeat and also has a female singer. This would be ideal as we know more people that are female that we can use as our possible artist. This song is more upbeat and one of our dancers has done a choreographed dance routine to this song so with some practice, we can polish this routine and use it in our video. However, because only one of the dancers knows the routine it does mean myself and Steph will need to consider dedicating a lot of time to perfecting this routine in comparison to the Take Me To Church routine which both of the dancers know really well so it means we could dedicate more time to other areas of the planning and preparation for the music video.
